Allavida is an international development organisation that helps poor people to transform their lives. Our mission is to enhance the practice and outcomes of development funding, philanthropy and social investment.

Allavida’s main development programmes are in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Our work encompasses grant making, training and peer learning, research and publishing, and the provision of professional services.

Our ambition is simple. We invest in what people already have, in order to ensure that they have the determination and courage to change their lives for the better. Aid alone is not enough. We need to create a new mix of grant funding and investment to help poor and marginalized people really transform their lives. This is what Allavida aims to do and it’s what sets us apart from most development organisations. It’s a model that can influence development funding and practice and greatly increase the effectiveness of aid and investment.

At the end of 2008, Allavida in the UK will close as a charitable organization, but the work will continue through Allavida (Kenya), a registered Kenyan not-for-profit organization. Allavida will be based in Kenya but with an Africa-wide agenda and a global network.
